Fahrenheit

77 °F

Kelvin
298.15 K
Celsius entered
25 °C

Calculation

  1. (25 × 9 ÷ 5) + 32 = 77 °F

Formula

°F = (°C × 9 / 5) + 32

Worked examples

  1. Body temperature

    (37 × 9 ÷ 5) + 32

    = 98.6 °F

  2. Freezing point of water

    (0 × 9 ÷ 5) + 32

    = 32 °F

  3. Warm summer day

    (30 × 9 ÷ 5) + 32

    = 86 °F

How the conversion works

A Celsius degree is 1.8 times larger than a Fahrenheit degree, so the Celsius value is multiplied by 9/5. The two scales also start at different points — water freezes at 0 °C but 32 °F — so 32 is added afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Where each scale is used

Fahrenheit is the everyday scale in the United States and a few territories, while Celsius is used almost everywhere else and in science alongside Kelvin. Converting between them matters for weather, cooking temperatures and medical readings.

Quick mental estimate

Double the Celsius value and add 30 for a rough Fahrenheit figure — 20 °C becomes about 70 °F versus the exact 68 °F. Use the calculator above whenever precision matters.
